Is it worth buying 2080 SUPER gpu?

JacobTech

So I'm building a PC up to 2000-2500$ and I've been thinking if should I buy the 2080 SU gpu or wait until 3080 gets released? Considering that nvidia is realising their graphic cards every 2 years,  it should be out somewhere around July. The problem is I really want to play Cyberpunk2077 after it gets realesed,  but if I wait for the 3080 release it would be a lot better and maybe even if it would be too expensive for my budget the prices of 2080  would drop. What do You guys think?

My best guess is that you should wait. You will get 40% better performance according to leaks and you will pay the same amount for the 3000 series, so just wait, you will still enjoy the game regardless.

So far leaks have held no grounding in reality

2080 super will play cyberpunk, i'm sure of it.

There's no release date for 3080, don't get your hopes up.

If the 3080 have more performance than 2080, it might create a new price segment, so the 2080 might have the same pricing.

You can see it back when 1080ti was $699 and 2080ti was $999.

Depends on what you mean, the 3000 series is definitely going to boost the raytracing computational power by a lot, to make it more usable. Raw performance might be anywhere from 10-40% increase.

Release date was pushed back to September this year (instead of April), so if you're sure the new cards will release around July, there's little reason to buy now if your main goal is to play Cyberpunk 2077.

Yeah, it's not like they'd follow the same release cycle they've had for ages, or anything. /s

Grockle here has a point.

The new leaks show too much performance for a consumer grade card. It has high chance to be a card meant for data centres. The 3000 series will boost undoubtedly but what's  coming this July might just not be the 3000 series

But remember the jump from Nvidia's 900 series to 1000? That was a lot of performance increase. I heard there was a same kind of jump way back in the 8800 GTX days too. So it's not impossible, though maybe not very likely? Who knows.

Yes, it isn't impossible.

There are two things you should consider.

First, the Corona virus may delay production of new GPUs released this year. Without any problems in the production line, it's already hard to get your hands on new high-end cards. First batches often suffer with problems (see case with first 2080 Ti cards dying up and down on the first batches).

Second, Cyberpunk was delayed and will be available in Sep 17,2020, but even then you may not to have a good experience from the day it's released if your current system is not good enough to drive it well at your monitor's resolution.

This year will be tough for computer upgrades with the virus messing up the whole production system in China. I've gotten a 2080 Ti around July 2019, and seeing how things are now I know that I played it right. Were I to consider the upgrade now, I'm not sure what to do either. I had 1080, so milage may vary.
