I'd lean more towards your ISP throttling your speeds rather than your router getting too hot. I cant confirm that that's what your issue is, but it's sm ore likely than a router overheating. Those tend to be pretty passive heat wise.

In theory that could happen.

Can you log into the GUI of your router to see if they have a temperature monitor? Usually this is under a 'System' tab.

 

But keep in mind this can definitely be for more reasons too, including the other people in your house, the Microsoft servers, your ISP, etc.

Just like TVwazhere and minibois have said, this could be the ISP throttling you or something else.

 

If you can be more specific, as in, if it happens at a certain time of day or every time you update your games, we can probably narrow down what's actually going on.
