Sorry for such a noob question but I have no idea when NVideo/AMD release their new GPUs.   I plan on building my first PC in 3 weeks (as the money will all finally be in the bank account) and now I am wondering if I should wait for the new GPUs (as the older GPUs should drop in price?).

So, anybody know the general time when NVIDIA and/or AMD release their new GPUs so they can be purchased?   Do these newer cards generally push the older cards price down?

Thank you for any information you can provide.

I don't know and history is not that useful to look at either, since sometimes they release every year, sometimes every two years.. Etc. Plus we don't know the performance yet either

Generally not in the first hand market, since the store or supplier purchased at a set price. Unless the manufacturer (Gigabyte/ASUS/MSI/etc.) gives a rebate to the seller, there is no incentive to go cheaper still.

The second hand market will have more options, but mainly of like low end 'current' (last) gen cards or higher end way older cards.

But this will depend on the how the market is where you live.

So no point in waiting really then.  The newer cards will have buggy drivers for a bit and games won't be able to take advantage of them at first anyway.

The current offerings of GPUs provide all the FPS that I need in the games I will be playing and future playing.

Thanks.

My opinion is that that you should only buy PCIe4 GPU's if you're already building a PCIe4 system (eg Ryzen 3xxx) , past that point, I'd probably just wait for a 7nm nVidia GPU if you're waiting for new kit from nVidia. The main issue is that current GPU's kinda do top out at PCIe3 x8, which can be seen as either "wow I can put in 2 NVMe drives instead" or "the GPU's hit a power limit and simply can't do more without shrinking"

I am not really waiting because the current GPUs are just fine (5700 XT/2070 super).  I am not looking into any overclocking just yet as this will be my first PC in over 20 years for gaming.  I use a laptop daily for work, but gaming was done on a console.

For my first build, i do not want to complicate anything with overclocking at first.  I will probably dabble into light overclocking later so I want to make sure the ability is there.   Mainly I want to buy solid components that will work together and provide a great PC experience.
