My gpu's usage is 30%-40% playing fortnite on low settings 1080p and most of the time 80%+ cpu usage. And i also have bad frames in some areas which drops down to like 80-90. Whats the problem with my gpu?

My specs:

GPU: RTX 2060 SUPER inno 3D

cpu: i5 9400f

Motherboard: b365m-hdv from asrock

ram: 2666mhz (XMP on)

But that has nothing to do with your GPU usage.

Fortnite is a CPU intensive game and your CPU runs at fairly low clocks so the cause may be that... or you run only a single channel DRAM. Since you havent specified your RAM configuration and only its clock speed I can't really tell.

I run 1 stick of 16gb ram. Does adding another stick of 8gb ram would make a difference or even work?

Well this pretty much is your issue. You only run a single channel. For high refresh rate gaming you absolutely need a dual channel.

Yes, adding extra stick of RAM should make a difference.

It wouldn't make a difference. For dual-channel 2 (almost) idential sticks are needed.

Adding an 8gb to an existing 16gb stick doesn't suffice.

There are settings that do push the gpu and there are settings that do push the cpu. Your I5 9400F should give plenty of fps with the 2060 Super, well maybe not 1/1 for your 144hz display. What are your settings, besides that you're unnecessarily running it on low?

All low except AA, which is on medium and view distance 'far'. Thats about it. I drop my resolution to 1600×900 most of the time to get a little boost in fps.

Viewing distance is more cpu bound while resolution and texture/detail - to some extend - is more gpu bound. Antialiasing is almost pure on the gpu.

2x 8gb instead of the 16gb will work, also 2x 16gb will do.

Definitely. That's your bottleneck here. I would even go for 32GB if it doesn't cost too much. But if you're not using much RAM for other tasks (such as browser etc.) 16GB will suffice for now. If you could find the same model RAM that you currently have, you could save some money too and get 32GB.

I barely use 10gb of ram, will my gpu usage go higher if i get an extra stick of 16gb of ram?

Compared to actual values, yes - because transfer-speed of memory increases to almost 2 times of your actual speed.

But some people said fortnite is just CPU dependant... Can you really explain the thing about increasing the ram?

Using single-channel is like having no shoes for running. You're reducing the capabilites of the cpu. What is a cpu doing? Quite roughly, it is often reading from memory, modifiying values, storing these values back into memory. Modern computers don't read a single byte or word but a whole sequence from the memory. Same with writing to the memory. By increasing the bandwidth by broadening it from 64 to 128 bit the time it needs to read or write a sequence is significantly reduced, the cpu is able to fulfill its tasks quicker.

Ok so to conclude.

If i add another stick of 16gb ram of the same speed (2666 mhz) does it have to be same exact company and same speed?

Will my frames significantly increase?

About same speed, same timings should do it. Ideally, choose an identical stick.

You can expect 15-20% more fps, with your settings at far distance maybe even more.

Yes and no, there is s possibility that different speeds and bands may not work right together, but I was running mixed ram for awhile just fine. Unless you already have another stick laying around to experiment with, I would just play it safe and buy the same stick.
