I want to buy an RTX 2080 Super, and I've heard that Nvidia specifically bins chips for their founders edition cards, but I think that the MSI Gaming X Trio variant looks better. Is there any real world performance benefit or even cooling benefit to using the Founders Edition 2080 Super? I plan to watercool eventually as well, and the founders edition waterblock from most brands is actually cheaper than the waterblock for the MSI Gaming X Trio. Should that factor into my choice as well?

EDIT: The specs for the build I'm planning are:

CPU: Ryzen 9 3900x

RAM: 32gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3600

MOBO: MSI MEG X570 ACE

Storage: Sabrent Rocket NVMe 4.0 1tb, 2x Samsung 860 EVO 2tb, 3x Toshiba X300 4tb

GPU: RTX 2080 Super

PSU: Corsair RM850x

Case: Corsair Crystal 680X

And a bunch of custom eatercooling parts like double 280mm radiators, soft tubing, cpu and gpu blocks...

Really, they are all about the same. The aftermarket coolers usually do a better job cooling which will make more difference than a binned chip. Whichever one you like the look of better (or is cheaper) is likely a good option.

Nvidia specifically bins chips for their founders edition cards,

if you buy from Nvidia sure, but I dont think founders edition made by their partners are also binned. If you plan on custom watercooling the card then founders is the way to go, just because of block availability alone

Tho my problem on the 2080ti is how little it gained over the 2080.

Thus why I am buying a 2080 Super and not the TI ?

no I mistyped that, I mean the 2080S has gained super little (5% at best, usually less) over the 2080. 2080Ti gets a decent 20% gain on average

Ah, I see. Still, the 2080 Super is often a bit cheaper than the 2080... right now on amazon it's like 100USD less than the 2080.

Quite the contrary, the founders edition cooler is good ish for the GPU and not so good for the VRam, basically beaten by most cheap aftermarket models. A high end card is a ton better.

In terms of water cooling it's a completely different story though.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

If I went with the Founder's Edition, I would buy a Corsair Hydro X series waterblock, since most of my watercooling setup will be from that line of products. If I do the MSI version, I'll probably be looking at the EKWB waterblock for the Gaming X Trio. Any thoughts on those two blocks?

Well, I doubt you'd see a very huge difference in performance. In terms of usability, I don't have firsthand experience with both.
