Building a LAN center. Looking for prebuilds!

Pactgaming

Typing this one my phone so sorry for any lack of info.

Basocy we are prepping to add on a 30 person lan center in our entertainment venue. One of those main issues about LAN is if you're systems aren't decent then it's a big no no.

The lan supplier we were going with sends you MSI Trident 3s with various specs. Problem is the shelf time on these will vary as they arent too upgradable for the foreseeable future.

There primary benefits are the quietness, ad comparability to save room for tables and chair setups.

I've been watching Linus all day and finally caved to come here and get some insight on great prebuilds in the 1,000-1,300 range. Or If there is a massive different in performance if DIY on 30 computers may work out better for us in the long haul?

Building computers (almost) always ends up cheaper than the matched spec prebuilt

Theoretically, if you were to save 150$ on each of these systems if you built it yourself, you'd be saving nearly $5k.

Or you could build  the systems for the same price and probably jump a fair bit in performance

Then each part will have it's own warranty, and can be fixed easily if need be.

Of course, those numbers depend on what you're actually buying- so what are the specs of the MSI systems you were looking at?

Image attached showing the list of build options for the msi trident 3, across from the price the facility would charge me and not the price you can find online (skim a hundred sometimes 2 off the top to get the real price).

A lot of the ibuypower rigs fit the mid range here for about 1000 to 1300 making them way cheaper

Edit: big concern with DIY is problems that can occur during and time to build on 30 pcs cost us in time

Yet if you are going to do a lan i can bet discord will be open, Spotify, chrome etc plus a pc to host the game server so i would stick with 8gb ram

Also what games are you planning on doing that will also impact your choice on specs if anything to be safe, r5 2600, 16gb ddr4 3000mhz at least, and a 1660 or a 2060 plus a 600 watt psu

I think the rarity of someone in the US paying to use chrome at a lan center is very low, discord yes and spotify yes, but even then it takes a lot to eat up all the ram with those programs to the point you cant game. I can monitor usage fro. The main server though and terminate things as needed haha. Maybe. We will see what I can come up with

no BarraCuda 120 is seagates stupid name. Seagate needs some help around naming.

it is a 2tb drive.

you will need a windows 10 key but that is the only thing missing.

this is what someone like NZXT would do https://www.letsbld.com/bld/step4?price=1500&draft=3641909011

games are big now and life is easy with a single drive.

I'd also put together a steam caching box with a 40gb to feed a swtich like the CRS354-48G-4S+2Q+RM

I would personally drop the 3800x for the 3600x. No need for the extra cores in this scenario. Then you could toss the savings at a 2070s or such.

I would probably toss the left over budget for a good gaming monitor and some very basic gaming peripherals

I've got a mix of 250gb and 500gb boot SSDs. I hate the 250gb

A Gigabyte R152-Z31 would do well but is probably overkill for a server

I thought about it but if it is 1080p a 2060 will be plenty, 1440p I would have gotten the 2070s

I think the 3800X is worth the bump because I'd expect these systems to be here for 4+ years

Oof if thats the case u might want to scale down ur budget for the pc 800-900$ and the rest on monitors etc, if u need to scale down r5 3600, 16gb ram 3200mhz (if possibly overclock to 3600mhz), 1660 super or ti, 500gb ssd plus 1tb hdd, 500watt psu 80+ bronze, 50$ case etc then u have budget for the monitor, mnk, and headset. Or maybe u might have a thing where bring ur own headset cause some people do that anyway cause i dont wanna feel the sweat of the previous user etc
