My gpu might not be fully utilised

bobloblaww

I have just built a pc with a ryzen 5 2600 cpu and a galax rtx 2060. I expected to see good performance and high fps however, when playing lighter games such as minecraft the fps is maxed out at around 180. Is there something that i may have done wrong or is my pc experiencing a bottleneck? Please help.

Install MSI Afterburner, enable OSD and in the settings, enable OSD for every CPU-core and the GPU. Then go play your games and look at the CPU-cores: if any of them is constantly hovering at around 90% usage or more, you have a CPU-bottleneck.

what percentage usage is your cpu vs what is the percentage usage on gpu?

a bottleneck would suggest that one is pegged close to 100 whilst the other isnt anywhere near.

iirc(please correct me if im wrong) minecraft is pretty RAM-bound so how much ram do you have?

Well minecraft is mostly cpu intesive. So im not suprised ur gpu isnt maxed out. Im not sure why you arent getting more than 180 fps tho. That 2600 should be able to pump out a bit more than that. Whats ur settings in minecraft?

What monitor do you have? If it is less than 180Hz more FPS will literally do nothing. And yes it will most probably be CPU bottleneck.

Minecraft is heavily CPU depentent. Specifically single-core speed is very important, and the 2600 doesn't clock very high.

Do you have the latest chipset drivers installed, the ones from AMD (not the board manufacturer)? Running the latest BIOS with the latest AGESA?
