Is it worth upgrading? (75 to 144Hz)

I am now picking a monitor for my future build, there are some nice IPS panels with FreeSync, 75Hz refresh rate, 5-1ms response times etc. They go for around 122USD here.

But I´ve recently found a Samsung 144Hz Curved monitor with a VA panel (Samsung LED LCD 24" C24RG50) for 147USD, is it worth upgrading?

144Hz is great as long as you got the hadware to power it, i have been using 60Hz for a long time (keep in mind that i dont notice a big difference with 75) and 144 seems to be a big upgrade.

The impression I am getting is that high refresh is more useful for some types of games than others.  There is value to be found IF competitive PvP esports style battle royalle games are a primary focus.  For me personally they’re not.  I might buy one anyway to get to 90hz.  75hz is likely more than enough for me though.  I’m doing quite well enough at 60hz currently.  I understand the floor where one starts to get diminishing returns is like 40fps.  My cat sees better than me and would likely have a different opinion.  She doesn’t have thumbs though so it’s not really relevant.  I understand the floor for octopi is higher even than that.  Again though they don’t play video games.

i agree the fact that a lot of people do well on 60Hz, simply is the most used refresh rate on the market

Yes, buying a new monitor in 2020 no point going anything lower than 144Hz really.

120mhz May have its points in larger systems.  It depends on what kind of games you play and what you can power.  Currently it seems to be a choice of size/resolution vs hz.  If it’s a choice between a 1440p 27” and a 1080p 24” it’s a bit more problematic than a hard 144hz.  It’s not an invalid opinion though.
