Why not just buy a 9900k, I dont see it being any different other than the name to the 10700k and you can have it today

The price point is suppose to be cheaper from what I've seen.

Doesnt change the fact that we're not getting 1 year old config based on 5 year old process node right away, we still have to wait. Shouldn't even consider the 10700k at this point unless it supports all the instruction sets X299 CPUs do.

Depends on what price the 10700K comes in at, and if the current leaks are representative of the actual specs of these CPUs, which we can't be sure of until they officially get announced. 

Going by the leaks though, the 10700K basically looks like a current-gen 9900K, so expect slightly better per-core performance compared to the 3700X, because of its higher clocks, but overall, they will be pretty similar in day-to-day use. Arguably, you could go for a 3800X and get even closer to the 9900K, as it's a binned chip and comes with higher clocks out of the box (relative to the average 3700X). I also don't expect Intel to have done any magic in terms of power consumption/heat output, so I'd expect the 10700K to run hotter and output more heat compared to AMD's 8C/16T parts, albeit with (slightly) better performance in most tasks, most noteworthy being probably gaming.

Benchmarks with it show barely even 5% performance difference between a 10700k and a 9700k, and this kinda feels like they just rebranded the same CPU to save face for the exploits that came out.

That’s not much of a distinction. 
 

Wait for 10700k to be out and reviewed before asking how the specs compare. Those specs, especially with regards to actual performance benchmarks and pricing, are all speculative. 
 

These threads pop up every time a product is rumored, and they’re never very helpful for anyone.

A properly set up Intel rig vs a properly setup AMD rig. 

Both don't really bottle neck GPUs. does 1080p gaming play a factor in deciding?

 

Eh, I'm not wealthy. Which ever one is cheaper on end budget. Get a bigger video card, or larger SSDs. 

 

7nm efficiency , cost of running it. AMD all day.
