RAM won't run at advertised 3200mhz

Go to solution Solved by boggy77,

do you have your ram in slots 2 and 4?

I've just bought a new Ryzen 5 2600x with an ROG strix B450-F gaming motherboard and 16gb of corsair vengeance ram but I can't get the ram to run at 3200mhz.

I've enabled the default D.O.C.P (XMP) profile which set the correct timings and voltage etc but it won't boot at 3200mhz, the highest I got was 2800mhz

The timings for the ram are 16-18-18-36

I've tried setting the voltage to 1.35v, 1.4v as well as (I think it was the board chipset voltage) to 1.1v and still no dice.

I've also flashed the latest motherboard BIOS.

I just assumed ram worked out of the box at the advertised speed, any help would be appreciated!

Set Ai overclocktuner to manual instead of DOCP - Go to tab  "Tool" -> SPD and see timings. Go back to Ai tweaker and set frequency to 3200mhz, Dram voltage to 1.35v and set timings manually according to SPD.

These are already the settings applied by DOCP but I'll give it a try!

make sure you are on the latest bios, if your memory kit is not the QVL hitting that speed is not guaranteed

And this. BIOS. But 3200mhz is nothing really, so shouldn't be an issue.

it is for a shit 3200 kit thats only validated on intel (16-18-18-36) is the cheap stuff.

Yes. 3200 - Op could try only setting primary timings of 16-18-18-36, 1,35v and running rest on auto.

Shit I put them in slot 1 and 3, does that actually make a difference? I'll change them when I get home, thank you!

Also I am on the latest BIOS just to confirm

Yes, it makes a difference. Motherboards have preferred channels. Sometimes they look in the preferred channel, if they don't find anything there, they don't bother with the other channel

Yes, thats why it isn't working. Try DOCP profile and it should just work. It dosen't matter if they are just validated for intel. I got a 3200CL14 Trident Z kit, that's only validated on Intel, but on the QVL list for my Crosshair VII Hero motherboard and works like a charm.

You can only run 2133 in slot 1-3 unless memory is installed in 2-4, because 2-4 is primary and will set configuration for 1-3.
