The top loading ODD, what was that technecly called? It be interesting to have a pc ODD like that?

The style? I have always heard that described as 'top loading', lol :P

Like the PS1, PS2 slim, GameCube, etc. are all top-loading consoles. 

 

Usually these are not made for internal PC usage, as the tower is (for many people) under the desk, so that would not be practical to top open. There are some external drives that work like this though

@Edward78 as mentioned, this has been around for a while. You can even get external CD and DVD drive that are top-load ;

But for it to be in a PC, you would need a special case, and seeing as optical media is dying, I doubt it's ever be a thing.

I was one of the guys that used to carry a genesis CDX in his pocket, you could use it as a discman or hook it up to a crt to play megarace or night trap!
