Hello to anyone that would like to help. I just installed a ryzen 2700x in place of a 2600 and now the rgb on my ram lights up when the power supply is on but the power button doesn’t turn on the system.

I removed the cooler and cpu and cleaned the thermal paste off but noticed the thermal past touching two of the connectors on the bottom as shown in the picture. Could this be what is causing the problem?

If it's conductive past, possibly. But if it's not, I doubt it. If you clean this up, be sure to check the socket too, to see if there is no leftover paste there too.

But even if this was the problem, I would expect at least something to happen when you tried to turn it on. It shutting off automatically, a CPU error, etc.

Finally, someone that actually posts a useful photo the first time.  Well done OP.

What happens when you try the 2600?

Just tried it, did not post but showed rgb on the ram sticks again. I’m starting to think it could be a problem with the power button itself.

You can short those pins to start the PC, but might be hard with it in a case.

How do i clear the cmos? I’m on a b450 Aorus pro wifi if that helps.

Yessir, no problem

Jump the two pins circled to 10 seconds.

Do this before you power on the PC with the 2700x installed. It's a must do anytime you install a new cpu on any PC.
