ASRock Phantom Gaming D Radeon RX 5700XT. Anyone have any info about cooling performance?

Midnitewolf

I have been looking for quite some time for reviews on the ASRock Phantom Gaming D 5700XT but can't find any mention of it anywhere.  I think it came late to the game after all the 5700XT hype had already happen and no one bothered to do any reviews or something like that.  With so many "dud" 5700 XTs having pretty major cooling performance issues, I am trying to figure out how the cooling on this particular card stacks up, do anyone have any info or can point me to a few links discussing this cards thermal performance in particular?

Can't watch the video now because I am at work but I didn't realize he did an updated video that included the Gaming D.  I will take a look at it tonight, thanks.

I don't see the Phantom Gaming D in HUB's $400-410 round-up? Do you have a timestamp? @Jurrunio The ASRock Challenger and Taichi are in there though.

Nvm I thought you're asking for the Challenger D. I thought Phantom D is just a reskin of the Taichi (lookng at their board lineup) but looks like it isn't, Phantom D is noticeably smaller.

this video do not tell anything about cooling and it's already as good as it gets atm tho

Cool.  I had thought I had already reviewed that video so it appears I didn't miss anything. Also I was under the same impression that this card used the Tachi cooler but after closer inspection realized it was a much different cooler which is why I am trying to figure out what the thermals looked like.  I know the Tachi came in a bit hot but considering it had an aggressive OC, I figured this model without the OC would be a lot cooler, however since the cooling solution also appears a lot smaller, it has me concerned.  It came out in December so it appears no one and I mean no one has reviewed it as I have searched high and low.

Factor in some fine tuning via undervolting. That can reduce temperatures, as well as fan speed and power consumption. If done right, it won't hinder the performance.

I would recommend Sapphire Pulse though. Pulse is among the most affordable, low budget cards, but very good heatsinks

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

You know, that is probably the best idea.  I am not sure why I didn't think about that card to begin with.   Going to wait to this evening to hear AMD's Keynote at CES before making a decision but might just take the plunge and grab a Pulse depending on what is said about Big Navi.

would be a sound choice. I think you will be better off with a Pulse. Undervolting still a good idea, less voltage means less heat, wattage, and can prolong the life of your GPU for the forthcoming years. The Pulse is a very good card IMHO.

Honestly, the only reason I am thinking about the 5700 XT is for it to hold me over about 1-1.5 years.  I really want Big Navi or possibly even Amphere but I suspect we won't see good aftermarket cards from either line up to perhaps Q4 next year and my Vega 56 is just not going to hold up that long.

Not sure if I got a bad card or what, but 111 Celsius at junction is worse than reference. That is just unacceptable from a partner card. Even with a VERY aggressive fan curve. It still had really bad thermals under load. It is late to the game so don't expect Steve to do video on it either. I would avoid it especially seeing the price it is going for on amazon atm.
