LAN transfer speed capped at 100mbps

Do both of these notebooks have Gigabit ethernet cards? What type of cable are you using? (Cat 5, 5e, 6, 7…?)

Don't know why, but sometimes the transfer speed reaches upto 3-500 Megabytes/sec, but sometimes it stays capped at 10 Megabytes/sec. Now I am in a hurry, but the transfer rate is slow. I use ethernet cable to connect two laptops and transfer data from each other. Let me know how to get higher transfer speeds always. Also, the files I transfer are large files, so it's not because of so many small files.

If I don't reply it's probly because I am in a different time zone or haven't seen your message yet but I will reply when I see it ?

Make sure both laptops have 1 gbps network cards.  Gigabit network cards support auto detection of pairs so you can use a regular ethernet cable.

If one of them has 100mbps ethernet card, then you need to use a crossover cable (or just cut a short patch cable in the middle and rearrange the wires in the crossover format, it will work)

Gigabit will give you up to 125 MB/s transfer speed.
