Opinions on AMD Software

Personally, my AMD software experience has been bad.

Relive is really slow, recording often doesn't work with fullscreen games, even when its chosen specifically.

On drivers, I have had a lot of crashes like when I open Tenor on discord, my screen goes black and I get alerted by "Wattman" about an unexpected error.

This breaks my games if they are running.

 

Im about to buy RX 5700 XT on new years eve and I checked the AMD reddit, people are saying the newest driver is awful etc. etc.

Kinda makes me want to go NVIDIA ngl, but their price points are so off the charts.

I just bought an RX 5700. Make sure to DDU the drivers and perform a factory reset for the drivers when you install them. I've had no issues so far.

Honestly both AMD and Nvidia have heavy driver software. Nvidia used to be great and shadowplay was awesome. Not it's super janky and looks like shit. AMD is cleaner now but luckily you don't need geforce experience

Just keeping this here as a Im about to buy RX 5700 XT on new years eve and I checked the AMD reddit, people are saying the newest driver is awful etc. etc.

Kinda makes me want to go NVIDIA ngl, but their price points are so off the charts.

5700 XT is a hit or miss, you either get a good card or no driver problem, or you get a bad card or have driver problems. Depending on the prices in your country, nvidia can be competitive in prices in perf/price ratio.

Partially because it offered superior performance at a price that wasn't much higher, but also because I wanted to use Shadowplay (as CPU encoding just wasn't practical for me).

But drivers (in my experience) are really not a reason not to go AMD.

Personally I do like not having to sign in to something to get my AMD drivers and all its features..

Just follow the on screen prompts. It’s recommended to boot into safe mode to uninstall the drivers.

  • Download the newest drivers from AMD here. 
  • Uninstall your current display drivers using DDU (before running DDU disable your NIC to avoid Windows auto installing a dated driver upon restarting).

Yeah, even when I crank up all the settings in the relive recording, the video still tends to look like low bitrate or something?

NVIDIA just seems the more user-friendly choice to me.
