Asus G751 Vertical Line in Screen

Some time ago my wife's G751 developed a vertical line occasionally. Should then would "rub" the screen and it would go away. Over time it became permanent, and shortly later doubled in thickness. What do you guys think, new screen or ribbon cable? Pic for reference.

 

Specs for those that are curious

 

CPU: Intel Core i7-4710HQ.

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M (4GB GDDR5)

Display: 17.3”, Full HD (1920 x 1080), IPS 

Storage: 256GB SSD + 1000GB HDD.

RAM: 24GB DDR3L, 1600 MHz.
