Why so many American and Chinese Unicorns?

I was reading random Wikipedia articles one day and came across this.

It is a list of unicorn start ups and I noticed that American and Chinese companies literally dominated the list top to bottom. How come so many high value start ups are Chinese and American?

The way investment and media works in those places I suspect.  Stock price and actual value are supposed to be the same but often aren’t.

Have you ever looked at the list of the worlds billionaires?

7 out of the top 10 are in the US.

Go down the list, and it's 16/25 US, another 3 are Chinese.

So 19/25 of the worlds billionaires are in the two countries you suggested.

 

You also ignored talent. Where do you go if you're extremely talented? Chances are, the US. You have the best chance of growing there, for numerous reasons.

Thus, you'll see more growth there.

Right. China.

 

Growth in Japan is stagnant at best. It wouldn't surprise me if in the next 50 years the Japanese people have a hard time surviving at all.

They do have a serious breeding problem.  The US does too though.  All the developed nations do.

It’s not far different.  The US has immigration though and the Japanese don’t really.  They’re trying to open up, but they’re so afraid for “their culture” any country with a breeding rate of less than something like 2.x has a problem.  I don’t recall what x is exactly but it’s more than 1.  If you don’t have it you’re not replacing population locally and can only survive by importing people.

True. That's one of the reasons why I really don't think world population growth is going to be a huge issue in the future.

Reproduction drops as nations develop. This has been proven in virtually every developed nation.

As China invests heavily into Africa, they'll have the same explosion of growth that China did, if not more-so. Then population growth will decline as they move to a middle class, consumer society.
