Which cpu is better?

I'm thinking about building a pc and im stuck choosing between 2 CPU's the AMD Ryzen 7 3800x or the intel i7 9700k i have researched both but i cant pick one, any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks

The 3800X has twice as many threads, the 9700K clocks a little higher. Which is better depends what you're doing.

Depends entirely on what you're going to be using the computer for, the 9700K will be better in gaming while the 3800X is better for Workstation tasks.

getting a 9700K means the best CPU you can upgrade to without a new motherboard is a 9900k

 

with Ryzen, you get the option to upgrade to 4th gen next year

The 9700k is honesty a bad CPU to buy. Either get a 9900k or buy a r7 3700x or a 3800x if it isn't that much more expensive than the 3700x.

The problem with Ryzen is that the 3800X games the same as the 3600 so you're not gaining nothing spending more if your primary use is games.

 

The i7 9700K however will game significantly better but it is all in all considered bad value due to the lack of threads facing the 3700X and 3800X which decreases it's multitasking and other uses outside game.

 

There's no right answer here, I'd argue it depends on far more information you haven't given us like user case, other components, display settings and so on.

3700x/3800x are like 9900KF that clock much worse, 3800x not as bad, for a big discount. 9700k wins in single core performance but isnt as good in multicore, so it really depends on workload and whether Intel Quicksync helps you

What is the i5 9600KF like for gaming? I know it's the KF version but im not bothered about having integrated graphics. What's better, Ryzen 5 3600 or i5 9600KF?

For gaming, Intel is always better.  For anything else, AMD is bang for buck.

If you're purely gaming, and doing no other productivity work that is CPU intensive, intel. If you are doing productivity, AMD is the way to go.

Also, the 3700x is in my opinion a better buy as you can overclock it and get the same performance as the 3800x.
