3900x vs 3950x

I saw the $250 difference for a 3950x. I plan on using my system for streaming and gaming on one single pc. I am also planning on buying a 2080ti. so idk which one is worth it for the purchase. will the extra 250 be worth for my situation? lmk if u need any more information.

here is my current parts list with the 3950x. i would appreciate suggestions on my parts list if u want.

Straight up if you’re only streaming and gaming you’ll be more than fine with a 3700x and a 2080 Super. The extra performance you get for the price difference between the super and the Ti is criminal.

But even if you do send it on a 2080Ti, for gaming and streaming a 3900 or 3950x Id just a waste of processing power. You won’t use it

I also would recommend a different brand PSU. That one is overpriced and Evga PSUs just aren’t that great. You can get a dope 850W Seasonic or Corsair for like half the price.

Not really the 3950X, but yes the 3900X. It's the best gaming CPU out of the Zen 2 lads, a bit faster than the 3700X AFAIK. 3950X isn't any faster at all, no games really scale with that many cores.

OP, just get the 3900X, unless you do a lot of heavily multicore stuff outside of gaming, then the 3950X could be a good choice, but even then the 3900X is pretty damn powerful.

On that list, would recommend getting a 2x16GB kit of RAM, easier on the IMC. Also:

The P2 is fine, but yes you can get a Corsair unit for a lot cheaper, anything TXM or higher is usually a stellar unit. Seasonic eeeh, most of their good stuff is on the higher end and more expensive than Corsair's, and the stuff competing on price has more drawbacks AFAIK.

The p2 series is among some of the best psu my man. a little pricey, but still an excellent psu.

a 2080ti is fine, we dont know resolution he's gaming at, and if hes at high refresh 1440p is absolutely fine. if hes at 1080p, even a 2080 super is complete overkill.

For the cpu, I would say a 3900x is a bit overkill, you could very easily get away with a 3700x overclocked a little, their gaming performance is near identical and they are both adequate for streaming, but if you want to also render out videos for like compilations on youtube, then the higher core count 3900x and 3950x would be better indeed, the 3950x is still a bit over kill.

for note, i stream 1080p 60fps with high bitrate, record, and render videos on a 2080 super with a 3700x with no issues at all. I run all my games at high refresh 1440p as well, and mostly maxed settings setting except for snap shooters like destiny, RSS, and halo where I want every advantage available to me. to note also though, I usually dont cap out at 144fps for my monitor in most games, I'm fine with it running between 90-130 smoothly like it does for almost every game.

Ok my bad. I’m a little uneducated on Evga PSUs I guess.

But he never specified rendering videos, so I didn’t include it. I have a 3800x and 2080 Super and can stream at 1080p 60FPS no problem, and I can rip games on 3440x1440p ultra settings no issues. So I felt the huge jump in price to a 3900x or 3950x won’t really benefit him.

and true I didn’t think of the resolution, and the 2080Ti is a beast, it’s the best card on the market. But it’s proven that the extra price for performance you get does not balance out, so I was only suggesting an option to save OP hundreds while not hurting his performance much.

yeah the 3950x is definitely a bit overkill for that situation. maybe if he was hosting game servers for cooperative games, and streaming them at the same time while playing them, then you might be able to make the argument, but then I'm sure the 3900x would do that just fine., especially considering I do exactly that with a 3700x and havent hit a single issue yet.

The price to performance is certainly a hard talking point about current Nvidia stuff... the 2080 super only provides around a 15-20% fps jump over a 5700xt but costs more than twice what they do, its just nuts. The 2080ti has a slightly better price/performance ratio than the 2080 super, but it still is just the best gaming card on the market, and if you're after that all max settings on triple A games at 1440p 144hz then theres no real way to get that other than the 2080ti right now with its nearly 18-23% over the 2080 super in many games.

And yeah, powersupply stuff is extremely confusing from time to time. brands like corsair, evga, and seasonic have made some of the best powersupplies on the market at time of release, and at the same time had on market some of the worst and most dangerous power supplies. Every brand has good and bad, and im myself only just now starting to come back around to liking corsair after having dealt with their shitty low-price headsets for years nearly half a decade ago. h1500i... i will never forget how many of those I broke and kept going back to... like an abusive relationship...
