First of all I'd like to say that I don't post on here very much but I come around everyone once in a while and just look around, and watch Linus's videos of course.

But, I had an idea of a website where people could go donate parts and whoever managed the site could kind of post on the site what has been sent in and what is in stock. But, if you create an account you could claim 1 part per month, or say 1 bundle per 3 months. Do you think that this could end up being a viable idea or is it something that will never work? Now obviously I don't think this would be for current gen parts, but say you have an old laptop that you don't need anymore, you could send it in and then we could send it out to a person who needs something like that. It would mainly be for like parts that our grandmothers would use, but not the enthusiasts. Say your mother wants a computer to go on facebook, but doesn't currently have one and she wants you to buy her one. Well, you could go to this site and claim a basic dual-core pc bundle and then bam!, she would have a facebook pc and those parts wouldn't be rusting away or in the trash. Do you think this idea could possibly work?

--Maybe the parts wouldn't be free because we might have to pay for smaller things like web hosting, but they'd still be super cheap.

I don't disbelieve you. But, how would theft occur?

You're whole idea was to share parts with others, then when they're done they return it, right? Maybe I mis-understood though

Also, I bet that people who don't really need the parts would just order them and re-sell them and make a profit

it would work similar to any Rent-to-own store. Must be 18, have credit, sign a contract, huge staff team, and the list goes on.

@TheDoubleYGamer Both Him and I suspect that we have to return it at the end of the month.

I didn't really plan on when they are done them returning it because I figured by the time most people would be done with those parts that they would be extremely obsolete and unneeded.

Also, I bet that people who don't really need the parts would just order them and re-sell them and make a profit

Yeah that is a hard thing to manage, but i'm sure we could think of a way to stop it.

I don' think it would have to work like that though. I just think you would have to find the right couple of people to lead the community based site.

Shipping would be payed for by the part claimer maybe? Like the person running the site would pay for initial shipping and then the cost of the item would be based on initial and then secondary shipping added together. My hopes would to make the site more community run so that some of these other things get solved based on that.

So you've broken even with that model, and the person running the site still isn't getting paid...

I don't think the idea will really work. There's also the problem of part compatibility, etc. In order to have a running "stock" to choose from you'd have to have a person running it. Which would be about $40k/year.

How about donating them?

Sharing is great but in this world we live in I would see people asking for stuff then selling it off for whatever they can to get some money...

Just think about how Ebay works and why many people use it... In the rest of the world technology is subject to sometimes retarded import taxes, making it very expensive so it's very common to see people buying used (old) parts for cheap just to be able to have something...

I think having a pool based system where users can ship stuff they don't need anymore, and some one (volunteer) gets those items to charity...

Even better would be selling said parts and donating the money... xD

Main Rig: i7 3770k, 16Gb Corsair Vengeance LP, MSI MPower Z77, Corsair H60, MSI GTX 780 LightningI, Ultra X4 1050Watts, 128gb SSD, 4tb Storage.

Lappy: ASUS G46VW i7 3630QM,  16Gb Corsair Vengeance, 128gb SSD, 500gb HDD, 1600x900 Screen.

maybe you can online take a part if you give a part first.

This could actually work...but what if I give an old GTX 550 in exchange for a GTX TItan and I keep it for myself lol.

I feel like whoever is giving away the Titan, it's his fault because why would you give away a titan. But, it doesn't matter what you give to get something as long as you give because it could go in a pool.

Inside one country or maybe semi-continent, this could be valid. But it would need to bring some money to hosters. I will continue taking my old parts and no-so-well-working stuff to local recycling center. They will take any electronics for free and repair/resell them if possible.

In fantasy land this would work well.

We are not in fantasy land so insert every possible con in existence in out reality and re-think your proposal.

Best if it was, Part Giving Away Idea, give it away if you don't want it and kiss it goodbye with no strings attached or expectations from the receiver as well.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.
