$1500 AUD gaming pc

WaavinHicks

A friend of mine is wanting to get a gaming pc and let go of is iMac...

I've come up with this for him but he wanted to stay under $1400, where should I cut back a little?

He wants to play games like dayz and bf4 and have room to upgrade in the future

MSI G45 gaming motherboard instead

put that money saved into other parts (i.e. cooler)

You can get a cheaper case and (maybe) PSU. You could also move over to AM3+ platform which should save a fair bit while giving pretty much the same gaming performance in everything post 2008.

I know if you get the Black Pearl colored case it cuts down the price a ton

I'd probably cut down on the case as it's mainly aesthetics.

A Crucial M500 SSD will probably save you a fair bit of coin.

Are you limited to pccasegear or are you open to other Aus shops?

If you don't need any special features, literally any z87 motherboard would do.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

get a 4470 or whatever (one of the cheaper quad core i5 cpus) if he's not going to overclock. it's going to save quite a bit of money and give the same performance. Then you can use that money toward a 770 instead.

I would also go for a gigabyte or asus motherboard instead, MSI has been giving me nothing but grief.

The case's price with the Fractal depends on the paint. 100 AUD to 155 AUD from Black Pearl to White

Yes, it's a good motherboard. The G45 -G is one of the greatest praised motherboards at the price (limited to states and CAN) so idk how that compares in AUS.

I tried telling him this, but he seemed pretty set on the case, he wanted a clean looking white case with a window

Hmmm cutting back on the psu? :P you can always sell that later to upgrade. If your friend likes the aesthetics of the case and mobo maybe investing in it would be a good idea

hellooooooooo

Tell him that the coloring changes the price by 50 bucks and see what he has to say

Cases are a pretty personal thing so it's totally understandable. My next case is going to cost me over $500, and most people think that's just wrong.

The M500 isn't a huge savings in Aus so I'd stick with the Samsung.

You could trim $30 off and go 1tb drive. The G45 board is a great option. Other than that I'd just tell him to pony up the rest.

You can get some better parts for the same amount of money if you shop around: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/2QmPC

If you want you could.....switch out the cpu/mobo and get something like a 8350 or 8320. And get something better like a 770 or something equivalent on the amd side.

Wanna hang out with me and people like @Theslsamg, @ Ssoele, @BENTHEREN, @Lanoi, @Whiskers, @_ASSASSIN_, @Looney, @WunderWuffle, and @nsyedhasan. Well.... Check out: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/48484-unofficial-linustechtips-teamschnitzel-server-teamspeak/
