Computer freezes until I alt+tab when running demanding games

I have been screwing around with my graphics drivers to try to get freesync working on my non-freesync display with no luck. When I was doing this, I tried running a more demanding game than the pendulum demo, Rainbow Six Siege. I then discovered that this and other games more demanding than Half-Life have an issue where they will freeze after running them for a couple seconds, then not unfreeze until I tabbed out and in again. I have tried reinstalling my drivers with no luck, and even tried resetting windows and restoring it to an earlier point in time, but those both failed. It is also worth noting that I have not been able to update windows at all for a while now, as it fails each time.

I am able to get games to run in windowed mode now, but it still seems like fullscreen isn't working right

Chkdsk found something? Or did SFC?

 

Have you checked your drivers (maybe use IOBit Driver Booster)?

I'll try IOBit when I get home. When I ran your script last night, I think it failed during the third section, I'll look at it again tonight.

updated every driver and it seems like full screen apps still crash, I'm starting to think this might have something to do with my registry because I can't even reset windows.

And sfc after that, did that do well?

Then everythins is fine. The most important is that chkdsk and sfc did not find anything wrong. That means Windows is probably fine.

If i reinstalled the drivers, and windows is intact, what do you think the issue is?

You might want to try something like Advanced SystemCare from iobit, it probably won't help but it shouldn't cause any major issues.

 

Maybe clearing the monitor settings using CRU Custom Resolution Utility would help, since you did try to tweak the monitors...
