USB 3.0 1 external + 1 internal on one header. Is that recommended?

I have got a Fractal design define mini, which has one USB 3.0 via an internal header. Can you combine that with a USB 3.0 pass-thru cable from a card reader?

I know that USB headers support up to two ports, but the pins are really small and I haven't seen any replacement connectors, in case the included one isn't complete.
