New Build for Audio Engineering and CAD/3D

Hi LTT community!

LTT follower on YT for a couple of years now but never really came on the forums before so new here!

As it happens, my current laptop is dying fast. The GPU is fried and sending constant panick attacks. Also the motherboard is fading away so it's time for something new!

For the last 10 years I've been using MacBook Pro's, mainly because I was in university. However, now that I settled and got my own apartment I'm ready to go back to a PC as my main central power hub at home.

For two years I've been back working on a Windows laptop at work and also all my work related software is running on Windows anyway.

Looking at the current Mac line-up I'm really not sattisfied for the 'bang for the buck' ratio + the fact that current iMacs etc don't pack the latest tech that will become very much standard in the future.

Some research I've done, but if you guys could help me with the final decisions or have some great tips for me that would be very much appreciated!

Here's the format as demanded : )

1. Budget & Location

2000-2500 Euro / The Netherlands

2. Aim

MAIN: Producing Music in Ableton Live 10 Suite

SECONDARY: Autodesk Revit 2019, Adobe CC 2020, AutoCAD, Rhino 6 - eventually some games (FPS )but not the main point of this build

3. Monitors

2x 4K 27” possible.

However, I will start with my current 27" Dell monitor (non 4K)

Might get one 4K display if budget allows it at the end of the build!

4. Peripherals

Not needed, all set.

- Logitech MX Master 3

- Logitech K840 Mechanical Keyboard.

5. Why are you upgrading?

As mentioned above: My current laptop (Macbook Pro Early 2013) is dying, constant GPU panick attacks. No money for a brand new iMac, and also the current iMacs don’t have Wifi6, Ethernet 2.5 etc and RAM / SSD is ridiculously expensive. So back to PC it is! Lastly, I don't need a laptop anymore since I am not traveling back and forth to university anymore. A PC build seems to be the logical and wise choice!

6. THE BUILD what I've come up with so far:

Motherboard (help)!

Personal requirements:

- Ethernet 2.5Gb

- USB-C 2x or more

- USB 3.1/2 gen 2 as many as possible

- RAM 128 GB possible,

- 2x M.2. slots for adding a second SSD storage in the future (1x 2TB SSD M.2. to start with I recon)!

- The possibility to add 2 Graphic Cards in the future that work together

- AMD?

- Wifi 6 ?

CPU

- AMD 8 core, Ryzen 7 3800X 3.9 GHz.

- ???

Good choice? Power vs price ratio looked very attractive. Overclockable?

CPU Cooling

Water cooling? Fans?

Memory

64GB.

- Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200 MHz 4x 16GB

- ???

Storage

- 1x Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB M.2 2280 NVME

- ???

Video Card

Tier B+ - High End Build, best card value performance-price. slightly overclockable

Needs to be able to run CAD software fairly well and be able to render some times and use live rendering software such as Enscape (plugin for Revit).

- Radeon RX580 8GB

- ???

Case

Simple, elegant, clean, black, metal, no RGB needed. USB-C port and USB 3.1 gen 2 ports in the front

Power Supply

High end. Platinum certified or better? 750 W should do?

Soundcard

not needed, I have an external audio interface.

- Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 gen 3 USB-C

Well wow. If I were you I would build a PC for the fun of it, and especially since you have such a high budget and standards. I'm not great at picking higher priced parts, as I have more experience with budget PCs.

Well I'd prefer to stay around that 2K pricepoint of course. Preferably right under it!

However, I might strech it if somebody can persuade me to invest a bit more with a lot of advantages! That's why it says 2-2.5K.

All advise is more than welcome, especially about that motherboard choice! So difficult to find and I don't know enough about them currently!

FUNFACT: my first PC build when I was 14 was with an ASUS StrikerExtreme motherbuild. Hence, this has been my username on tech forums and FPS games since then!

How does this look: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X570 Creator/index.asp

Our Grace. The Feathered One. He shows us the way. His bob is majestic and shows us the path. Follow unto his guidance and His example. He knows the one true path. Our Saviour. Our Grace. Our Father Birb has taught us with His humble heart and gentle wing the way of the bob. Let us show Him our reverence and follow in His example. VERY nice! What a great choice. A bit pricy but it has indeed everything I want and very future proof!

Tips on CPU, AMD 3700X or 3800X or something else? Very very welcome..!

Tips on GPU similar.. I was thinking Radion, but could I also go GeForce? Why/Why not?

Tips on cooling, ditto. What's reasonable? I see big price differences.
