Does the pc pick it up the drive in BIOS if so there is a chance that it might need to be formatted back in to a read bill format.

Ok. I had one wd passport with the same interface (USB 3.0) and that micro USB 3.0. The funny thing is that the 3.0 part died and only the USB 2.0 works. You can try connecting with a standard micro usb 2.0 cable:

Try a different port on the PC (try front and back ports.) I've seen PC's have the USB 3.0 no longer function while the USB 2.0 functions fine.

hook it up with a different cable, and check if it shows up in disk management.

if it doesnt.. i hope you have a backup, because that's a death.

I would try and see if you can see it in Diskpart on Windows - I'm not familiar enough with Disk Utility on Mac to be sure.

Just open Run (Win + R) and type "diskpart"

Then type

list disk

if it shows your drive chances are you can save the data or at least reformat it. If not, it's dead. If you need the data I recommend looking for data recovery specialists in your area for more help.

the idea of a backup drive, is that everything on it is still in another location as well.

a backup is a copy.

if you're lucky, it's the enclosure that died, not the hard drive. and when it comes to figuring that out..

- figure out how to open up the enclosure

- take out the sata drive

- plug the sata drive directly into your system.

well, the light turns on and i feel the hard drive is spinning.

if i take out the sata drive, should i connect it with sata connector or with USB 3.0?
