Hi everyone, ever since I upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, I've had a lot of compatibility issues.

1. Java in any web browser is not running properly.

2. My Logitech C520 webcam does not work in any Metro app or desktop program except for the Camera app. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, deleting drivers. the whole lot.

3. My taskbar (explorer.exe) randomly restarts itself.

Anyone else have similar problems?

Anyone have solutions/suggestions for these problems?

Never heard of those issues.

Did you upgrade or do a fresh install? If you upgraded, what did you upgrade from? I always recommend doing a fresh install. It takes more time, but you end up with a much cleaner system.

First time I hear these issues.

For Java, all I can think is that you are installing the 64-bit version, but your web browser are in 32-bit. So make sure you install Java 32-bit.

My Logitech camera works perfectly well on my desktop running Windows 8.1 64-bit. So I don't know why. Try a different USB port is all I can think.

As for explorer clashing, all I can think of is that you installed a tool bar or a program added XP stuff on Windows 8. Remember that Internet Explorer is out of Explorer since Vista.

So if a program setup goes "Hey, I don't know this Windows 8.1, it must be Windows XP, let's install all this crap I have for it."

Which software do you have installed?

I had even more problems, like Open with dialog is not saving or launching the program after choosing and more annoying problems since I upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1, so I did a complete format and reinstall of windows 8.1 after 20-30 days of formatting.

Now already 2 and a half months no problems at all on my computer.

Other than that, everything is good, never use Windows 7, don't use Windows 8 it is buggy, really buggy.

Windows XP is getting unsupported in April, don't get that either.

Windows vista..... Really???

Just windows 7, is slower than 8.1, take the word from me

Click the like button if I helped you, it only takes 0.5 seconds and does not cost anything!

i have had explorer.exe crash in 8 but not 8.1 and java sucks anyway....maybe you should do a clean install

Yep when you get stuff like that just clean install. Weird stuff like this happens sometimes to windows, its been that way as long as I can remember.

When I upgraded from Windows 8 to WIndows 8.1 on my tablet there was so much stuff wrong and just plain not working, for example Internet Explorer, the graphics driver, sleep function, etc. But after the new drivers from Acer (I have an Acer tablet) were released and a few Windows updates, I haven't been more happier with it. It's snappy, responsive, no issues whatsoever.
