ryzen 5 3600x vs threadripper 1920x

Been thinking, In theory if one was to make the upgrade, the ryzen 5 3600x costs about the same as  threadripper 1920x does now. Would Quad channel memory etc still make the threadripper better or is the 3rd gen just that much better?

for gaming?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Gaming, streaming, etc. normal stuff. no fancy video editing, maybe small youtube vids with gameplay but that's about it.

3700x + cheap x570 board is the better buy.

sure but that's way more expensive. What made me curious was this exact matchup

Pretty sure the motherboard for the threadripper would cost you a lot more and so it would be better to go for the ryzen 5, and the ryzen 5 will do way better in gaming too

Gaming - Ryzen 5800X3D | 64GB 3200mhz  MSI 6900 XT Mini-ITX SFF Build

Home Server (Unraid OS) - Ryzen 2700x | 48GB 3200mhz |  EVGA 1060 6GB | 6TB SSD Cache [3x2TB] 66TB HDD [11x6TB]

I guess you're right, wasn't bringing in motherboards because sure X399 is really expensive, was just more a comparison of the 2 cpu's simply because I found it hard to actually figure out what was better. Money wise I think for sure the ryzen 7 3700x is the better value

I'd imagine the 1920X would have the edge on anything truly multicore, but it's hard to say.

Extrapolating from this Bitwit vid where even 2nd gen TR is utterly destroyed by 3rd Gen Ryzen, I'd say the IPC increase would make up a lot of ground in many areas even when considering core count. Though there are some areas where sheer core count is bound to win.

3600x is a better choice

go with that, and for a decent mobo you need to get into the $150 range

do you plan on overclocking at all

or is your post all a dream?

It was never for me to actually do the upgrade it was just a thought because I saw how much prices on 1st gen threadrippers plummeted.

yea thats the way it is, older tech is cheap and is still viable for 95% of the people out there, its just people want new new new all the time

For myself I'm pretty sure I can ride my 1600x until the next gen is out and I can take a look at the upgrade then. Assuming 4th gen will work on the same Motherboards I'd be able to do an easy upgrade but even if not my cpu isn't holding me back in the games I play just yet.
