80€ for 3600x over 3600 and x570 over B450

Hello there,

I have a deal I am not sure I should take.

Gigabyte offers 60€ cashback if you get a X570 MB and a AMD Ryzen CPU. The lowest CPU included is the R5 3600x.

My alternative setup is the MSI Tomahawk MAX and a 3600. The setup with the cashback is a Aorus Elite x570 from Gigabyte and the 3600x.

Now is it worth to spend the extra 80€? Especially, how long will x570 be supported by new CPUs?

personally, i think I like the Gigabyte board. Has some RGB, the fan stops, and it should overclock the 3600x quite nicely with my NH U12-S (Ltt Edition of course). And it has more USB ports, but at just 98€, The Tomahawk looks like incredible good value.

What do you think?

EDIT: the offer only lasts till the 27., so one alternative is to wait for black friday, to get a better deal on the b450 config.

For 80 more I'd rather jump to a 3700x than get a better motherboard but that's me.

 

Iirc the tomahawk Max can handle a 3700x

3700x is 120€ more than 3600, and there is no x570 board with it

You don't gain much from going from a b450 to an x570 with only a 3600.

 

I always feel upgrade path is not a sensible feature as you almost always lose money and you are just better off buying better now.

 

In your situation I'd try to get a deal on a 3700x and an appropriate board instead.

3600x is only mildly better than the 3600, so most of that 80 euros goes to the board. Imo unless you do more than gaming, the X570 Elite offers nothing useful that the Tomahawk doesnt

I'd go with the deal if you like the motherboard. Plus I'd never get an MSI motherboard so that helps the decision in my eyes even more.

AM4 is supported until the end of next year. So, one more generation, maybe.

B450 and X570 are both AM4 and will both support new chips until the end of next year.

They both will overclock and any advantage in favor of the gigabyte board will be a couple percent. The 4 + 2 phase VRM on the Tomahawk seems much worse than the 12 + 2 phase VRM on the Aorus board but it makes very little difference unless you are overclocking a 3900x or 3950x.
