Have you tried the Windows Update troubleshooter?  You could also try Here or here for Windows Update-specific help from MS themselves.

i had one windows dl that took a year and id try it every few months like 4 times each.

Try this if you haven't already. Let us know if it works. You could also try booting into safe mode with networking if there's a 3rd party program interfering with the update.
