I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

intel cpus are still better at gaming, but the price-to-performance of AMD is much better

also i'd go with fasauceome's build

for gaming, I'd rather have the 3600, but if OP needs 8 cores for some other workload it would make sense, OP didn't really specify

As usual well said chief.  Your right about what you said.  Now that I remember the 8700k is solid as heck for gaming and near the 9900k and its 6 core so ya makes sense.  But if he uses Premiere or CAD or other designer software then I recommend the x470 and 2700x   ...... Gaming will be just fine as well.  A 2080 Ti would fly on this CPU.  Not same frame rate as 9900k but close enough.

To answer the question in the topic name, that depends.

If you're on a budget (which, according to your post, you are), the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 basically reigns supreme at its current price point for gaming, and the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X as an 8C / 16T is the best option for productivity at its price point (if buying new).

This isn't to say that Intel doesn't have options, though. The Intel Core i5-9400F is a considerably cheaper although considerably slower alternative to the AMD Ryzen 5 3600, and the Intel Core i5-9600K is a faster, more expensive part than the AMD Ryzen 5 3600, though that CPU has even more costs through having to buy a cooler and, if you want to overclock, a more expensive motherboard. Generally, AMD is the better value here, though.

If money is no object, then the Intel Core i9-9900K and Intel Core i9-9900KF are the best gaming CPUs you can get. You pay a lot, but you get a lot of FPS. Even so, if you wanted to use your PC for more than just gaming such as streaming, the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X can sometimes be a better option.

I suppose this depends, too.

Does the OP want faster gaming or faster productivity? The AMD Ryzen 5 3600 can do productivity well, but it's better at gaming, while the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X can do gaming well, but it's better at productivity.

For what I personally do, having more cores that are still pretty fast helps me a lot more than just having cores that are faster. I think for what the OP is doing, this is probably the better option.

As for getting an X470 board, that mostly depends on what features the OP needs.

In terms of price, the RX 5700 XT is $400 and so is the RTX 2060 Super, but the RX 5700 XT is, on average, a bit better.

In terms of performance, the RTX 2070 does cost $100 more, but it's a bit faster.

In terms of value, you can still find an RTX 2060 (non Super) for around $350. It's not as fast as the Super (thus not as fast as the RX 5700 XT), but then again, you could get the RX 5700 (non-XT) for around the same price, too.

This is just talking about performance, though. RX 5700 XT does not have features like DLSS or RTX raytracing. It also consumes more power than an RTX 2060.

I've done what I can to drop the price without significantly affecting performance. Here are the changes:

  • CPU cooler was removed - The Ryzen 7 2700X's stock cooler (Wraith Prism) should fit in the case you chose. It's not the greatest air cooler in the world, so don't expect to pull off any overclocking world records with it, but it's a lot better than Intel's stock coolers.
  • RAM was downgraded from 3200 MHz to 3000 MHz - This should be fine for your needs, and you're free to overclock it back to 3200 MHz if you need to. If so, I recommend using a tool like https://www.memtest86.com/ to help you test for stability.
  • Storage was downgraded from M.2 to SATA III - SATA III SSDs may be bandwidth-limited, but the 860 EVO should still be very fast and responsive even so.
  • GPU was swapped for a board partner card - This was a much better deal.
  • PSU was swapped for the non-modular version - The CX 550 has the same specifications as the CXM 550. It's just non-modular, so the cables will come permanently attached to the PSU. As a result, it'll be a little cheaper at the cost of convenience. The case you chose appears to have a shroud for the PSU, so you probably won't need to worry about excess cables floating around in your case.

Gotta say, the 3700x and the 5700xt combo seems to be the VIP this year.

Wait, I'd thought that the 5700XT was closer to the RTX2070 Super in term of sheer performance, and is a fair bit better than the RTX2060 Super (unless it''s a specific nVidia optimized game), am I wrong? From what I've gathered, the 5700XT competes with the RTX2070 Super, NOT the RTX2060 Super , whichI think is the 5700 is its natural competitor.

It is. I suppose I could have worded it more to say that, but I felt this was enough.

Yes. I even said that.

Correct. I suppose I implied that, too.

Basically, the OP wanted options from Nvidia (which I assumed cards that were around the price). These cards were the options:

  • RTX 2070 Super - A little faster but a lot more expensive, but you at least get RTX features
  • RTX 2060 Super - Around the same price, somewhat worse performance, but you get RTX features
  • RTX 2060 NON-Super - A bit slower, but you can get it for approximately $50 cheaper (I mentioned the RX 5700 non-XT as the equivalent card) and it has RTX features

In my opinion, if you care not about RTX features but only raw performance in games that use conventional 3D rasterization, then the RX 5700 XT is the best buy out of all of these cards.

The RTX 2070 Super is faster, sure, but not by nearly enough to warrant forking over an extra $100, and while it does draw less power than a 5700 XT, $100 is more than enough for a better power supply.

The RTX 2060 Super, on the other hand, is slower but costs the same. If you need NVIDIA-specific features, then it is worth getting. It also draws less power. However, if you care only about performance, then it just isn't worth it over the 5700 XT.

The RTX 2060 non-Super is a cheaper, slower alternative to the RTX 2060 Super, and it's fairly good. If you're on a budget, it might be something worth considering. But, as I said, the RX 5700 non-XT is also worth considering if you're on a budget.

Also, yes, you might find some meme NVIDIA "the way it's meant to be played" game somewhere where the RX 5700 XT will be slower, but most people generally get a PC to run multiple games. I looked at the benchmarks of various reviewers to come up with an idea of what performance you'd typically see between these cards, and that was my conclusion.

I like Intel CPUs and AMD CPUs, I never thought that AMD was bad, but I always preferred Intel, however, for the first time with the most recent release, you can go in any direction since both are very good at it.
