Opening a url in current tab with java script

Hello there! Does anyone know how to open a url in the current tab with js?

This is the way I'm doing it right now:

function go(){
        
        var url = 'https://www.youtube.com';

        window.open(url, '_self');       
    }

I can't figure out why it's not working. I've looked at other forum post from other forums, and they all suggest I do it this way. Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

If you are using Javascript in HTML and want to open a page in the current tab, why no just use an <a href> link?

I was just doing some testing with it because I couln't get it figured out.

It's supposed to be this:

        var url = 'controller.php?id=' + document.getElementById("id64").value;
        

        window.open(url, '_self');       
    }

Hmm still doesn't seem to work. I added console.log("debug") to test if the function was even running and apprently it wasn't which doesn't make sense to me. This is how my button looks:

I fixed it. It worked after I removed the <form> tags from that contained my button and my text input. Thank you!

The standard way to do it would be to use window.location.href, although if window.open works for you then I don't think there's any harm in it.

window.location.href = "https://example.com";
