R5 2400g paired with amd 5700xt

steelo

Currently I have a 2400g paired with a rx570 and it works pretty well. However, in the next year or so I plan on upgrading maybe to a 5700xt. Will my CPU bottleneck this GPU? Also, Im using a 550w evga ps, will that be sufficient?

should be ok

what PSU are you using exactly?

maybe have a look at:

just to make sure your PSU is somewhat decent

Hey steelo lol. I think the 2400g would most probably bottleneck it at 1080p (as my 2600x does slightly this for me) but at 1440p, i dont think this would be a huge issue but it also wouldnt be my "go-to" cpu/gpu combo and would upgrade if you want all the performance out of the 5700xt. Alternatively you could get a 5700 non-xt and probably not get too much of a bottleneck while getting still decent performance. Also what model of psu are you running?

Should be "fine" but wouldn't run any overclocks on it and (again) would look forward to an upgrade in the future.

Hey man, hope you're doing great. You see my rpi halloween 'eye'? LOL.

I forgot they have a non xt version. Maybe I'll just wait a year or two and upgrade to something like a r5 3600. As far as my ps, its a crappy evga 550 watt bronze...I didnt know better when I built my PC...LOL

Thanks, hope you're doing good as well. If you do decide to upgrade your cpu, maybe look into 3rd gen ryzen like 3600 that will probably be at a discount in a few years, less power but iirc, i think you said you had a lower end a320 or b350 board right? As for the psu, I can relate, my first build I used a crappy 500w 80+ white coolermaster unit for 35 bucks, at the time I saw the 80+ logo with the $35 price tag and was like "PERFECT!" lol

Sorry, I edited my post before seeing your reply. 3600 it is! LOL. Unfortunately, I have a b450m hdv mb which I think is fine as long as I dont go crazy overclocking. I'll probably have to upgrade that too...LOL

Just enable PBO for the 3600... It'll give you 4.2GHz all core, and shouldn't draw too much power.

Also, the 2400g isn't really going to be a noticeable bottleneck for the 5700 XT, despite what others are saying. It had at most 4 FPS lower than my 3600 when doing 1080p ultra on various modern games.

Weird, my 2600x and 5700xt combo seemed to line up with online benchmarks of 3600 and 5700 benchmarks

The 2600x is pretty similar performance to the 3600... If the 5700 XT is only getting 5700 performance, something's wrong.

Yeah but the ipc's and single threaded power of the 3600 is noticeable over the 2600x

Nahhhh.... I would... i just like gaming more than i do overclocking so i dont bother with tuning clocks and voltages as much... hell even amd's auto oc kinda sucked.... just made the card hotter with like a +80-100mhz core clock.

I have a tendency to try to squeeze every bit of performance out of PC parts...if I can improve the frame rate by 4-5 fps, I'm thrilled...LOL
