upgrade i3-8100 to R5 2600 Worth It?

Hey Guys!

I have been thinking, is it worth it to upgrade a i3-1800 to a Ryzen 5 2600 along with a new motherboard?

I am starting to see my CPU hit 100% utilization more than i would like especially in GTAV. 

 

For comparison if i was to just get a 6 core intel processor (i5 9400f) it would cost about the same amount as the 2600.

just to clarify, the cpu wasnt at 100% in same game before??

Seems like they are more expensive by themselves then getting a CPU, MOBO and a better upgrade path.

What i meant by the CPU usage is that more tasks that i am doing are reaching the max performance of the CPU.

Are you only gaming at 60hz? Your i3 should be fine for that, might want to upgrade your display first, unless you just really want to get the 6c/12t CPU for some other task like streaming or video editing.

My main monitor is 75hz  

And yes, I would like to start streaming and video editing. I am also doing a graphics class at school so I use Autodesk Inventor and AudoCad quite regularly which means lots and lots of CPU rendering.

That CPU is an amazing find, in USD,but sadly a little bit high for my budget. 

I have already picked up 16GB of ram a little while ago. 

 

Somewhere around $300 AUD is my budget as its a tough time of year for money.

Still $50 AUD off retail, you could always sell your i3 first to raise the extra funds or something.

That way you have the 8 core CPU for the long run, and perhaps the better motherboard.

This is very true. Could i use a B450 Mobo instead of a x470? Would there be any perceivable difference?

You just lose some overclocking potential, but as long as the B450 board has a 4 phase VRM with a decently sized heatsink it should handle stock clocks just fine.

Ebay AU doesnt seem to have a "pay off" option and stuff like afterpay doesnt work
