Hi! 
I as the title says i was wondering if i should upgrade my CPU?

I am now running Intel I7-8700(non-k) CPU, Zotac RTX 2080ti GPU, Gskill Trident Z RGB 16GB 3600MHz RAM and Asus z390-f gaming motherboard.

Would i see a significant performance increase by upgrading to something like a I9-9900K? Should i go AMD? 

I could also wait for Intel to drop the new line off processors which should be in the near future.

From personal experience the i7 8700 has never limited my gaming experience if all I intend to do was game, it's by all means perfectly fine and adequate.

 

About improving performance or not it greatly depends if you're currently CPU bound or not on what you're playing, your display settings and so on, replacing parts past a point will not scale performance linearly or anything of the sorts.

I am mainly gaming shooter games on 1080 resolution with 144hz. I am playing competitive CS:GO on a fairly high level so i need every advantage i can get there, and i know that CS:GO is CPU bound. But i also play other titles like Battlefield, Call of duty, PUBG and i want to be able to play these games on 1080p with max settings in over 144fps. Also i would like my computer to be still good for the next years to come.

Personally I would wait

the i7 - 8700 is more then capable for now.

2080TI?  For those games?  Should have gone more CPU and less GPU.

 

If you have the money for a 2080Ti, the answer to your question is obvious.

If you used a RTX 2080 or less would say no, but the 2080 ti likes 5ghz CPUs for some reason.

 

If you use a non high refresh rate high monitor it probably does not matter.

 

To test use MSI Afterburner. Turn the power limit on your card all the way up.

Play all the intensive graphics games you have and after the sessions look at the power % graph on MSI Afterburner. If you can reach the power limit you set then a new CPU will not help you.

 

Don't worry if some games can't reach 100%. Non graphic intensive game won't.  Also make sure sync is off.

I play at 3840 X 1600 with a 2080 ti with and a i7 8086k. The power limit I set is 124%.

 

On Shadow of the Tomb Raider the power limit reaches 126%.

On Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Wildlands 111%

On Farcry 5 126%

On Witcher 3 128%

On Assassin's Creed Odyssey 118%

On Kingdom Come Deliverance 130%

On Control with RT on 134%

 

The two Ubisoft games will only reach the max on the power limit at 4k resolution for some unknown reason.

 

Since you are playing at a low resolution your power limit may be around 77 to 88% if you are CPU bound.

My 2080 ti setup is CPU bound at below 1080p so I will never see it in games.
