David Bowie Theamed Build

David Bowie build:

History:

I have always been a Bowie fan. I bought Space Oddity in sixth grade. My first Album. Saw him for the “Lets Dance Tour” in  the 1980’s. Then when Vans came out with the David Bowie line of shoe I stood in line to by clothes for the only time in my life. I never wear the Vans out without somebody saying something or better buying me a drink.

So, each of my builds so far has had a theme:

1.      the first was “ I have no Money”

2.      Anvil: Military surplus parts in a man-portable waterproof case with the best processor and top of the line motherboard. ( 70lbs build , with internal UPS , WF-Fi and LAN routers). I bent and painted the metal myself.

3.      Colossus :  Themaltake level 10  red LED only, Intel 6700K, Ausus  Hero MB , 16MB RAM . Strix 1070, 5 @ drives (SSD) , @ DVD burners & 1@ 3 1.2 “ floppy drive. I built this unit to

Inventory so far ( 10/05/19):

Case Thermaltake H200 TG White ( only one glass side a nice canvas for the project)

Thermaltake Toughpower grand series 1200-watt RGB ( I got this at frys’s last year cheap)

Thermaltake 3-pack fans with controller Pure Plus 12

NVMe M.2 970 Evo 1 TB

2@ Team Group L5 SSDs 1TB Gold in color ( I got these to match the interior )

I need the advice of those greater then myself here:

This is the odd part. I have not picked a processor, ram or cooler yet. I can wait until March 2020 for this project to complete. I think I might just wait for the new Thread Ripper to come out and buy the current generation at a discount. But I am way open to suggestion on what is normally the most important part of the build.

Colors for the interior : harvest gold, black , white & grey.

The Bowie theme:

Now important part. I figured why recreate a cheesy design when the Vans I have (see above in post) captured the design esthetic pretty well.

So, I have included a picture of a shoe and a side of my case bellow so you can see where I am at.- Note my wife painted the good parts of this I painted the much less good parts.

really depends on your workload, what programs do you expect to use this most with? That new 16 core 3950X will be great as a HEDT standin and a far more affordable option with great performance nonetheless.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

So this took  from October 2019 to January 2021.

Final configuration:

  • MD 5800X 8 core CPU
  • Gigabyte Vision D 550B - This s a beautiful and solid performing board. It cost more than many 570s.
  • 64GB Gskill Royal gold 3800MZ
  • Samsung 970 EVO M.2 2TB & 1TB both on the MB
  • 3D printed CPU air cooler with Zalman guts and an old Lucas electronics log- This did not fit I am very sad - Using a Be Quiet AIO 240 😞
  • Sapphire 6800XT Nitro +
  • two gold-plated SSD 1TB to so with the gold G SKill ram
  • Zalman Korean market keyboard white made of aviation steel.
  • Thermaltake level 10 mouse ( white)
  • Vive Pro VR set-up

OVerclocking: Downloaded 3Dmark on steam and ran time spy after a two hour OC attempt. on January 9th 2021 I landed the 124th spot. Mostly due to no AMD 5800 and 6800s in the wild yet.

  • On the CPU I consistently  sustain 4.5 to 4.7Ghz at reasonable temperatures. Looks like I won the silicon lottery.
  • Ram is running at 3800mhz with a quick XMP check the box.
  • Sapphire 6800XT Nitro + saw about 8% increase, I had it higher but I did not like the temps.

Nte I still have USB drop-outs!

Happily ever after..

Until the next build!
