Is my PC running too hot?

EDIT: what do u mean by boost?

^^ That's what I was talking about, GPU Boost 2.0. I forget what Pascal does, IIRC most of the higher end cards will boost themselves to 1900-2000Mhz on their own, usually a good bit above what the spec sheet says, but GPU Boost is very temperature dependent. They boost the best at or under 50C, every step of the way from 60-70-80-etc it loses a bit of headroom due to clocking lower for thermal's sake.

You card is gonna be fine up to 85C, it just won't boost as high.

So i recently bought a PC from a custom PC builder, i chose the Coolermaster Masterbox Lite 5. I assumed that airflow would be decent enough for my specs untill a friend of mine told me there is not enough airflow for my specs?? i tried finding a decent review but all i could find was this guy shitting on it..

My specs are 8700K 1070TI 16GB ddr4. I used MSI afterburner to measure temps and my CPU stays around 75-85C while playing Gears 5. With spikes up to 87C. GPU doesnt get hotter than 81C

The CPU is even watercooled. So are these temps okay ornot? when i take front the front panel the CPU will cool down to approx 70C, while GPU temp stays roughly the same.

EDIT: perhaps i should note that the only time i saw it peak to 87C was when it went up to 100% load while loading up a battle on Total War three kingdoms. It cooled back off to 75 immediatly after

it's safe for your hardware, but if idle temps are high something's wrong

Uhm i guess so the company i ordered it from promised to overclock the system while maintaning acceptable temps. all i have done is enabled User defined software automatic fan control on MSI afterburner. I have only opened the case once and that was to clean it. i do think all the fans work though

EDIT: i have never actually measured the IDLE temp nor do i know how to. all i know is when i start up a game the temps i see are around 40C

Well i checked it out. They are not reversed. I would not expect that from a professional PC building company either. Its not like it averages at 85C anyway. they are spikes, it rarely stays above 80C for longer than a second.

EDIT: with the front panel off it does not get hotter than 70C spikes. perhaps i should leave it off while gaming?

The case is known for poor thermals.

There are a few videos on YT showing how to modify the front panel for better temps.

That's fine, still well within safe temps. I'd only worry about 70-80C+ on the GPU because Pascal boosts less and less the hotter it gets, if you can keep it at 50-65C it'll boost much better. If you're not worried about those extra few MHz then it'll still be fine though.

Is the OP running a custom loop or an AIO?

Some 280mm AIOs struggle to cool the hotboi CPUs, whereas I built a system for a friend almost 2 years ago running a 6700K and R9 290X on a single 280mm rad with safe temps and it's still kicking with only one maintenance session about 6 months ago (dusting and a flush/refill of the loop cause my friend had time to bring it over). The difference between an AIO and properly done custom loop is pretty damn big. Pretty sure Bitwit did a vid running a full system on just a 240mm rad with one of the aluminum EK kits as well.

Agreed, my 240mm AIO and its inability to handle mild overclocks over sustained times was the reason I decided to go loops on my machines.

Where do you see these temps, of 40c?   Idle temps are when the PC isn't doing anything, so look at the place you look at for the 40c.  That's the idle temp.

Sorry im not quite sure what you are saying, ive been told that the 1070TI should be below 85C, I have never seen it go above 81C.

someone posted this

''The higher the temp the shorter the life of the card, now it is usually the capacitors on the card that fail and not the GPU itself, 75-85C is fine for a 5-8 year life span, depending on the card. Just make sure that the card never exceeds 91C that will fry your card. ''

Is he not correct? Why should i worry then?

Your temps would've been high for stock speeds but seem normal if the system is already oc'ed.

Okay thanks. In your honest opinion, would you change the case? if that is at all possible
