my current system needs upgrading and i have only $300 to spend and i was stuck on desiding on what path i should take. i dont have enough to get a build that fits my needs but i wanna upgrade some components and then the rest later.

my current specs

  • core2quad q6600 @2.4GHz (cannot overclock due to motherboard not supporting it)
  • ati radeon 3870x2
  • about 6.4 TB worth of storage
  • win 7 professional x86
  • 4GB DDR2 @Unknown clock
  • 1440x900 monitor(i game at various resolutions)

so would it be better to get:

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-r9270xgaming2g

or something like this and use the other parts I'm currently using

http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

and this is all just to jump start my upgrade process

CA-RIP, Cz up hoes down, bang these hoes out with my rounds.

You need to post the permalink and not the url.

Also what's the system being used for?

Your second link is invalid. Copy the link above the part list not from the url bar.

Most probably the GPU will be a good upgrade. You could throw more RAM in if you can buy it cheaply and if you have free slots.

the 2nd link is a msi 270x and its working.......maybe something is wrong

If you want to go with upgrading your CPU and rest of your system instead:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2MyUT

This to me seems a better option for now and then replacing your GPU.

This board allows you to use both of your 3870's and then put in a new graphics card when you have the funds to do so.

with your monitor, get a new graphics card and that's that, got a friend still gaming on an E6500 maxing out everything with a GT 640 (I'd go higher than that though) So the R9270 gets my vote.

To the OP @Lanoi 's build is what I would recommend. Or at least buy an fx processor and use your GPUs in the newer system but you need an overhaul really.

Just as a question how is your system unbalanced(referencing your signature)?

Lanoi's build is good short term wise, but buying a GFX card now and building the rest later in a higher tier is better.

I would figure upgrading CPU and RAM would be the priority since this guy is probably not a gamer and they are what will boost his speed all around the most.

and i use this computer as an all around computer

that's a good upgrade, however if you use it for basic tasks and gaming then the graphics card for now is still the better option, though it doesn't matter. in the end you still need to upgrade it all in the end.
