this is the only downside to steam, as if I have my PC, my game consoles and my fiance's macbook/my laptop on it takes FOREVER to download games, or the download will take precedent and everything else slows to a dial-up esque crawl

With today's technology I often wonder why we don't have colonies on the moon or Mars. Then I go to Wal Mart for 5 minutes and realize the vast majority of the human populace isn't ready for such things.

Yeah its the 28.5 GB size that is killing me. I have seen some pretty cool indie games lately, just haven't pulled the trigger.

Seeing threads likes this makes me sad.  I would hope that Internet access would be much better in 2014, but I guess not.  It took me 30-60 minutes to download Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

My ISP claims 5 mbps but after a couple years of service, I have determined that is a complete lie. :(

That's actually not surprising.  Depending on the technology used, the servers the information is going through, and the latency you are experiencing, you may only receive a portion of the rated speed.  5 Mbps is not that much throughput to begin with.  At most, you can download 625 KBps.  If you haven't already, make sure that you have chosen the closest Steam server to your location.  If that one is congested, try the next closest, etc.

Im a bit of a cheapo when it comes to internet and cable, so I have the lowest package that my ISP offers. The good part of the story is that I signed up for the package about 4 years ago and they called me last week saying that they are getting rid of the 5 mbps service and I will get bumped up to their new lowest service which is 50 mbps!

But wait there's more, my monthly bill will go down $5 per month when this takes effect at the beginning of march!

Unfortunately my modem isnt capable of over 25 mbps, so in order to get the whole 50 I need to update my modem. Still a win if you ask me. :)
