NAS without networking.

Hello i am looking for a box i can a box i can throw some 8tb 3.5inch drives in, and then connect to my pc using usb 3.2.

My home is 4G based, so no networking, so i couldn't care less about the network part.

 

Ideally it would have 3-4 bays, and would look something like this:

 

Synology stuff looks about right, but it is stupidly expensive. For the price of just the case, i could get 8TB of SSD storage, and that is just not cool. And because i don't care about the network part, is there something cheaper out there? Ideally 100-200€.

You're looking for Direct Attached Storage or (DAS)

The prebuilt options should be a lot cheaper in if you look for it that way.

Yes, the 8TB external HDD's are way cheaper than internal ones, but the problem is that i already have the drives, so i need something to put them in.

I didn't look extensively as I'm technically in a meeting (this one is only 3.0) but just to give an idea of what I mean.

You could build a DAS for cheap from scratch. That's what I'm in the process of doing. It wouldn't be USB3.2 though it'd be External Mini-SAS SFF-8088

Ye i saw QNAP products on amazon, if they are a quality company it looks like the option for me.

I like their software. That said, as will everything, there can be duds in the lineup, so make sure you research before buying.

I know you will, just throwing that out there for someone else that might come across this thread in the future.

Also you can use a nas here, and just use it on your local network. You don't need a wan connection to use a nas.
