gpu cooler change

I need some help, I just bought a gtx 980ti card off ebay (an msi version with a blower style cooler), it works perfectly well however temps get very high very fast (mid 80's to low 90's under load and no OC) it also takes a very long time to lower the temp even at 100% fan speed (yes fan works well its very loud, temp lowers about 1 degree C per sec at fastest) Is it possible to replace it with an aftermarket non blower cooler say from an broken evga card or would it be helpful to replace the thermal paste? thanks!

You can always replace the thermal paste and pads. I suggest Kryonaut thermal paste. Depending on the changes on the PCB, you can most likely change the aftermarket cooler.

check what PCB design its using, if its the stock PCB then you should be able to swap the cooler from any other stock PCB 980TI onto your card, if its a custom PCB then you will have to use a cooler from a card that shares the PCB design or use an aftermarket option like the Arctic Xtreme IV

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)
