Best PC setup to upgrade for 1080p 144hz maxed settings / 4k 60hz gaming?

Hello I've had my PC built since 2017 and I am interested in upgrading to a setup focused on 4k gaming or 1080p 144hz maxed settings

Here is my current PC setup/build:

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Kyuneki/saved/7jjFTW

If there's any notable setups or things to upgrade to for 4k 60hz/1080p 144hz maxed settings, I would really appreciate it!

Do you have a 4k monitor as your current monitor would be pointless using 4k settings or even 144hz 1080p as your refresh rate is currently 60hz

How much would you like to spend? We can as much as overhaul your system or only do a partial upgrade where you grab a used i7-7700K, maybe a stronger cooler so you can overclock it, and a new RX 5700 XT or RTX 2070 and leave it at that. Of course we'd add a monitor.

The alternative is to go full 2019 on this mofo and overhaul the entire thing - if you like you can sell the old parts to make up some of the investment.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

would a 2070 and i7-7700k be ideal for 1080p 144hz maxed/ultra? as for cost, again i dont wanna spend too much but i really just wanna upgrade the GPU and monitors as of now

If you want to push 144 fps you might want a faster CPU than the 7700K. For 4K though it'll be fine

The 7700K is pretty fast, it's just an 8700k minus 2 cores after all. Even the 7600K that OP already has might do the job, depending on the games

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

You know, after looking at some reviews, I'd kind of forgotten that the new Intel CPUs don't have much IPC gains at all. The 7700K looks pretty good, so here's a list of updates:

Prices for the 7700K grabbed off a quick ebay search for used chips. Note you might get a delidded one - that's potentially good, potentially bad. If the chip works I'd say it's better than a stock one since delidding Kaby Lake was a massive increase in cooling performance. But the danger is that the person who delidded it might have Derped and then you'll get a DOA chip or one with lower lifetime.

The monitor was taken off the Tomshardware Best Gaming Monitors list. It runs Freesync which is compatible with the included RX 5700, or it can run G-Sync unofficially according to the review.

I'd wager you can get $60 from the 1050Ti and $150 from the i5 if you sell them to make up some of the investment.

If you want a 27 inch 144Hz monitor I'm not the biggest expert, but perhaps someone has good recommendations on that one.

If you'd rather have 4K then perhaps you can keep the i5, get an RTX 2070 Super and grab something like this guy

For 4k 60hz I'd grab a used 7700k and a 2080 or 2080ti.

For 1080p 144hz max settings, you'd need to scrap most of your build because no CPU on that socket can handle 144fps these days. You would need something like a 3700x or 9700k for 144fps and a motherboard to match. Then go get a 2080ti. If you go intel, also get a Noctua NH D15 while you're at it.

Main System: EVGA GTX 1080 SC, i7 8700, 16GB DDR4 Corsair LPX 3000mhz CL15, Asus Z370 Prime A, Noctua NH D15, EVGA GQ 650W, Fractal Design Define R5, 2TB Seagate Barracuda, 500gb Samsung 850 Evo
Secondary System: EVGA GTX 780ti SC, i5 3570k @ 4.5ghz, 16gb DDR3 1600mhz, MSI Z77 G43, Noctua NH D15, EVGA GQ 650W, Fractal Design Define R4, 3TB WD Caviar Blue, 250gb Samsung 850 Evo

How's that exactly? Intel didn't exactly make a big jump in IPC from 7th gen (almost none at all) and your average AAA title doesn't exactly saturate a 6 core with HT

Pretty sure there aren't any 6 cores with HT on Z270 boards, but I may be wrong. But your average AAA title in 2019 absolutely uses more than 4 cores. I mean you can see that the 8700k is faster than the 7700k at the same clockspeeds because the additional cores help.

there aren't, I was just comparing it to the 8700k which is far from 100% occupied in AAA titles

yes they do, that's where 4 cores with HT comes in.

but not really in gaming. not unless we're talking about notoriously core hungry games like Battlefield or Assassin's Creed, which still both run pretty well on a 7700K anyways.

It really depends on the kind of games you want to play or play right now. Even a 1080 can push 144 easy on most games. Triple a titles are hard to run at 144 Even with a 2080ti. So my recommendation is a GTX 1660Ti or a Rtx 2060 depending on your budget . These can push 144 on most games . And 4k is not an option for you I think not really for us. 4k is for the whales with big wallets. So just go for an rtx 2060 or 1660ti . If you could push up your budget then maybe the rtx 2060 super not more than that.

just raw perfomance, which one you get depends on the resolution and refresh rate you decide to go, I wouldn't go with the 2080 unless it's a deep sale at this point, and the 2070S is close enough to it. If you are looking for straightforward recommendations, i suggest the following

a. buy 5700xt red devil, stick with the 1080p/144hz monitor (strongly recommending this)

b. go all out, buy a pg27UQ for 1500usd before they are gone, buy a 2080 ti, enjoy

my friend hates it when i play monster hunter on 1440p/98fps cause hardware's just not ready for 4k atm imho, even the 2080 ti is slightly too weak for 4k

When and if you do decide to upgrade your monitor, resolution itself doesn't really improve the quality of the experience, , it's down to refresh rate and color accuracy, and pixel size (sometimes not noticeable). That's a whole other can of worms, that's why i strongly recommend the first option.
