Need advice on upgrading an AMD system

Xiee

Hi guys. Just need some advice on my planned upgrade for my PC. Thanks in advance for anything you can add.

First off, some background on my current system (showing only the specs that matter):

- AMD Ryzen 1600

- ASUS B350 Prime Plus Motherboard

- 16GB (dual kit) G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4-3200 CL16 RAM

- Palit Jetstream GTX 1060 OC 6GB

I bought my 1st generation AMD system about a month after it was released to the public (2 years ago?). I mainly use my system for gaming, video editing (Sony Vegas and Adobe Premier) and some photo editing (Photoshop, GIMP). I have to say I was quite happy and content with my system, but it's showing a bit of it's age and would like to get something more powerful.

I'm currently torn in getting the new Ryzen 3600 or just get a Ryzen 2700. The prices of these two aren't far off with the 3600 just slightly expensive than the 2700. However, I do know that the 2700 has more cores and that should help with my video and photo editing. But I'm conflicted seeing stuff from UserBenchmark and people saying I'm better off with the 3600.

Oh, before I continue, here's what I plan to upgrade:

- AMD Ryzen 3600 or AMD Ryzen 2700

- MSI Mortar Max B450

So yeah, this is kind of my dilemma and just wanted to know what everyone thinks. Should I stick with the Ryzen 2700 for more cores or should I just get the Ryzen 3600 since it performs better overall?

Again, thanks for any input!

Personally I would get the 2700x for 200 bucks and Im not sure if it will work with your motherboard.  You can check and see if their are new BIOS released, if not then you will have to get a motherboard which is not that expensive,, just grab a x470 mobo and what not if it doesn't work.  You should have a BIOS flash button behind your motherboard you can upgrade BIOS with usb stick and what not.

3600 imo. It's higher single core performance and better latency means it should be more responsive during the editing process even though it will take longer for the final export. As I said, you could leave the export when you're asleep, but you cant do that with the editing process.

The 3600 is comparable to the 2700X so get 6 core.

keep your motherboard, upgrade to latest bios with your 1600. Then Get a 3600 and a decent air cooler.

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've decided to go for the 3600 when I upgrade in the next couple of months. I'm still on the fence about keeping my current B350 board, but I will most likely get a B450 board to keep up with the times and for a possible upgrade path in the future.
