What is 4K and why is it $1,000?

4K to put it simply is a 4 times higher resolution then 1080P. The reason it is a 1000$ is that you can't find any and Apple has a price mark up.

4k Is 4 times the resolution of a 1080P display, and as of now they are quite expensive to produce.

Apple does not have a single 4k display in it's lineup. What are you talking about? And there are already 700$ 4k monitors from companies such as dell and seiki.

Here's a linus video that might help you out:

4 times the pixels, but twice the resolution.

And I don't know what you guys are talking about apple doesn't have a 4k display.

not really, it's sharp and it's not actually a bad price for 4K
