I think I broke the USB-C port on my S9. Help!

another_member

Hi all,

Recently, I had my phone charging from a powerbank while walking. I later sat down, only to realise that I had completely bent the cable. So I ordered a new cable (the same one which came with my phone) and have been using that since. Today (I normally use wireless charging, but occasionally need fast charging), I noticed that it was no longer 'fast charging'. I will attach a screenshot of the lock screen (look towards the bottom; it says charging, no mention of fast) and a screenshot from an app to measure the rate at which my battery is charging. The S9 is insured, so I could get a replacement if the port is definitely damaged. I am using the AC adapter which came with the device.

Things I have tried:

Clear cache

Hard restart

Check the fast charging option in settings

Different wall plug

Different AC adapter

I have factory reset my phone before (also due to battery reasons), however that was before this incident.

Thanks,

Catchears

I would try a different cable instead. AmazonBasics ones are really high quality, also Anker.

Also try charging when your phone is nearly empty.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

Fast charging requires communication via data ports of the USB connection, plug your phone to your computer and see if it gets recognized and you can pull data off your phone. Sounds like broken connector or fucked up cable.

Amazon basics have always been fine for me, however I have had 7 Anker cables over the last few years and ALL of them have broken while my $5 cable from 5-below still works flawlessly, I can't recommend Anker after that.

why no dark mode?

I only have an old macbook. Android File Transfer cannot detect my phone, although I don't know if that is simply due to MacOS. It does however seem to pop up as a network interface.

Try cleaning out the USB-c port on your device using a toothpick or something small, you'll be surprised how much dirt get in there, it makes a bad connection not allowing fast charge.

I had this problem and it was the cable. Try a second/know working cable first.

Double check your settings and make sure that fast charging is actually enabled. On Samsung phones, at least this was true on my S7, you can disable/enable fast charging inside the battery menu. Just a thought.
