for a friend

he plays osu a lot now but want to be able to play other games

Only change I would consider is switching out the x570 board with a b450 one (with BIOS flashback) and get some 3600MHz RAM with the $$ saved (Low latency 3200 MHz would be fine too).

only reason i picked that board was so the build experience would be smooth (no messing with the bios) as he is new to pc building and i'm across the continent from him so the only help i can give in in a video call

meh/10

suggestion:

it has bios flashback, so no cpu needed, just a usb with the flashing files

That's a fair move in this case From what I understand some MOBO's (I heard a Gigabyte one) are now going to be shipping B450 with Ryzen 3000 compatible BIOS. Might be worth looking into.

I have the Same CPU with a x570 board and do somewhat regret it as the chipset fan is noisy.

I see the logic there.

9400F is still trading blows in gaming, and requires very little on the MOBO/RAM front. In a gaming build, it's a smarter squeeze than dropping down to a 1600 or 2600.

The squeeze is to fit the 5700, which is a pretty solid step up from the 1660.

It's still problematic.. No SSD with an overpriced 1TB HDD.

240hz monitor is a ridiculous move.

the 2600 though still costs less, and offers the same performance without the problems that come with having non hypertreaded 6 cores
