Ion Fury - a new Build Engine game in 2019

Not sure if anyone has heard of this. I didn't even hear about it until LGR and Digital Foundry both dropped a video today covering it.

What is it? Well, it's a brand new game built off a modified Build Engine. For those who don't know, that is the engine that powered classics such as Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, and Shadow Warrior. This is developed by Voidpoint, LLC but 3D Realms is the publisher. Given the nature of the game, I imagine there is deeper cooperation than 3D Realms simply fulfilling the role of a publisher. I'm not sure there are any programmers or artists who worked on past 3D Realms titles or Build Engine games that worked on this, but I wouldn't be surprised.

This game really has that old school FPS look and feel (from what I understand, I haven't played it) but everything looks really nice and crisp compared to any old Build Engine games. Frankly, I think it looks gorgeous. The art design is just fantastic.

If I wasn't knee deep in other games that I need to finish, I would pick it up and start playing tonight. It's only $25 USD on Steam and apparently XBox One, PS4, and Switch ports are in the works.

It's still listed as early access but the official release is tomorrow so I'm guessing that will change then. They might have already uploaded the release build but it should be there for sure by tomorrow.

Oh, did I mention Jon St. John (Duke Nukem's voice actor) does the voice of the main villain?

Let me know if any of you have played it and what you think. It has really good Steam reviews so far and I'm sure many of those are from Early Access builds and from what I understand, it has really improved and is definitely ready for full release now.

I keep saying this on accident because the game was originally called Ion Maiden but then Iron Maiden said they were suing 3D realms over the name so now for some reason I've got Iron stuck in my head lol.

And as far as I know, there aren't any 3D gigglies to be shaken for you when you throw money at the owner. Who knows though? There could be a Duke Easter egg like that. There is a Quake Easter egg that I know of. I expect a lot of homage to be paid to past classic FPS games.

Ahhh gotcha!

The game looks cool though, definitely added to my watch list. As soon as it's on sale, it's mine!

Aye i recently noticed this game also. I may give it a try if theres a demo version or something available. To be far im not sure if i would enjoy a 'retro' game like this nowadays. Dont get me wrong I loved DukeNukem 3D ..played the crap out of it , as did I with Quake and Wolfenstein. But im not sure if todays me would be as enthralled.
