9400f on 300 series mobo

So I'm currently looking at buying a new mobo, cpu, and ram, the cpu being the title, and the mobo being the Asus TUF H310M-PLUS mobo. It says it has up to support for 8th gen, and the processor is 9th gen, but the processor asks for a 300 series motherboard to work, my question is will it work with my processor out of the box or would it require a bios update? [upgrading from 1150 and have no 1151 cpus laying around to update] Any and all help would be appreciated, especially recommendations for a better mobo for pretty much the same price if anyone have any that come to mind, thanks!

It's not unlikely the board will need an update. Ask the reseller to do it for you before they ship it out. Many offer this service at a small premium.

in my country, the retailers happily upgrade the BIOS for you around 3euros. Worth asking! (in fact, some shops even do it without any surcharge..)

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )
