It all depends on the chipset

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Check the motherboard support page for CPU support. By the way, you can also check if your board has a modded BIOS available for Xeon X54xx series chips. They can be bought pre-modded for 775 and provide the best possible experience on the platform without going Core 2 Extreme QX96xx/97xx.
