Cost to Performance - Titan X vs 2080 (& soon 2080 Super)

So, I have been browsing EVGA's inventory, as one does during their anniversary event. I have been checking out what they have on sale and browsing their b-stock products, when I stumbled onto something interesting; you can get a new Titan X for only $399.99 USD now. So, that got me thinking, would a Titan X be comparable in performance (minus raytracing) to an RTX 2080. Going off of Toms Hardware GPU Performance Hierarchy, both cards are neck and neck as fare as their performance score (96.0 and 96.1 respectively). However, is the new architecture of an upper tear RTX card and real time raytracing really that much better when compared to a top tear Maxwell card?

~ Price for GeForce GTX TITAN X = $399.99 USD (new via EVGA at this time)

~ Price for GeForce RTX 2080 = $699.99 USD MSRP (can be found for a little less right now)

I am not looking for advice on what to do, but just want to get some input/discussion going on from the community. Any thoughts?

Another dynamic to consider is that RTX 2080 cards are likely to flood 2nd hand sites like Ebay once the RTX 2080 Super goes on sale, so comparing the used prices of a Titan X and a 2080 might change things.

Note: the RTX 2080 super hasn't been revealed at the time of this post.

My stance right now would be to save the $300 and go for the Titan X just because it seems like it has a much better cost to performance. Real time Raytracing is still very new and not really worth the additional cost, at least not yet. I am looking forward to what the 2nd generation RTX cards have to offer though.

Titan X Maxwell is still a pretty solid card. I don't think that one will be irrelevant for quite a while.

How soon do you need an upgrade from what you currently have?

I don't need a card right away, I am getting along fine with my GTX 1080 and plan to keep it for another generation. I am, however, always on the look out for a good deal.

You are confusing the cards here, the GTX TITAN XM from that EVGA link is Maxwell architecture based and on gaming it's performance at best matches the GTX 1070 Ti / RTX 2060.

The card that outperforms the RTX 2080 is the nVidia TITAN Xp from Pascal architecture.

Hurray for terrible naming schemes, you are correct, closer to a 1070 Ti
