Why on earth would anyone buy this...

 

 

 

I keep seeing these super overpriced where people either (A.) are to stupid too look up what something is worth (even Intels own damn site lists it as $425 msrp) , or, (B.) are tryin to scam someone else thats too stupid to look up what something is worth. I see these especially with gpu's and complete systems built by the seller.

MMM,,, probably mostly because it's the 8086 version. Also some people get paid in cash and can't put that cash in the bank. I met a guy one time with a really nice Mac collection one time and later found out that much of that money was made illegally.

Some people like illegal immigrants get paid in cash and don't have a card to buy online. They can take the bus or something to meet someone to buy stuff like this on craigslist of facebook marketplace. The fair market value is less important when it's impossible to drive to another city or buy online. There are people that know this and will take advantage of the situation. Whether it will be successful with a CPU is unknown but someone will be willing to try for a week since it doesn't cost anything to list again.

Yeah, i hate it when people think somethings special just cause it says "Limited Edition". Reminds me of those people who resold those Finalmouse air58 ninja mice for like 300 bucks.

It happens when a CPU and GPUs goes out of production. 

 

I think I bought the last one at a reasonable price.

It's just better not to give them attention and let other possible buyers know that it's a scam. They'll always be there, and you can't really change that because they are usually extremely arrogant and irritating,

Yes, but it's the name and the reason that make is special, not what it does.    Same with the 50th AMD stuff.  People will pay an extra $50-100 just for the LS sig on the lid.  Everybody has that one weakness they will over spend on.  Each to their own I say.

I feel that doesn't really make them "special" but instead just different with limited quantities because they effectively are the same thing.

That's fine, that's why it's each to their own.  The 8086 is special to me, but not special enough for me to pay the premium, they are to others though.

Yes and no.

I tested the i7 8700k and the i7 8086k at the same time. 

The i7 8086k runs at 5ghz on all cores with the same amount of heat as i7 8700k does with 4.7ghz on all cores. So it is extremely cool compared to the i7 8700k.

It can even run at 5.2ghz on air. 

 

But what makes it really special is that it doesn't bottleneck a RTX 2080 ti. To get it to bottleneck I have to drop the resolution to 960 X 540. 

My i7 8700k bottlenecked the 2080 ti at 1080p and 1440p. It is only at 3440 X 1440 that it stopped.

This is why I don't run it at 5.1 or 5.2ghz. I would need a much more powerful GPU than a RTX 2080 ti to see any gain. 

 

Since I have 2 computers with 2080 tis I retired the i7 8700k and got another i7 8086k.

I will say its impressive that the 8086k stays cool but i thought i saw videos when it came out of people comparing the two, seeing if it would oc better than an 8700k or was binned for oc-ing and people said they couldn't get it to oc any higher than the 8700k. Also, you have 2 2080ti's!!! Now thats just flexing lol.

Really good i7 8700ks can clock as high even though they need to be delidded to stay as cool but the chance of you getting one is low. You have to win the silicon lottery. 

My i7 8700k could not get to 5ghz and that was very disappointing to me considering that I would have to live with the chip for years.

When the i7 8086k came out I replaced my i7 6700k with one. My i7 6700k ran really hot even at stock and compared to the i7 8700k stock was a poor performer.

Between the i7 8700k and the i7 8086k there was not a big difference in performance running GTX 1080 tis but that changed with the RTX 2080 tis. Then the i7 8700k had to go.

It weird what a small difference will make to bottlenecking. Do you know the preformance differences between the two chips with 2080ti's?

Yes.

Running Heaven at 1080p on Ultra with extreme tessellation and any AA the i7 8700k stock could only hit 71% of the power target and 77% at 1440p on the 2080 ti. The i7 8086k stock could run the 2080 ti at 130% of its power target at both resolutions. With the i7 8086k the frame rates were over 240fps at 1080p and over 144fps at 1440p. The frame rate on the i7 8700k was below 240 and 1440fps at those resolutions.

 

I had only one i7 8700k so I don't know 100% that all i7 8700ks run like this at stock. I did run the test with the i7 8700k at 4.8 on all cores but  the results were not much better. Going over 4.8 caused Heaven to lock up. I did test the i7 8700k with Cinebench and the scores it got were average.

 

I did some tests with my Son's i9 9900k and it got about the same results as the i7 8086k so I have come to the conclusion that the 2080 ti needs 5ghz.

I would not mind being proven wrong on this since it was totally unexpected and I still don't quite believe the results myself.

 

Now I am looking at R9 3900X and R7 3700X Youtube results. 

When Youtuber uses a RTX 2080 the R9 wins in games most of the time over the 9900k and the R7 ties a lot. Then a RTX 2080 ti is used the i9 9900k wins most of the time.

Wow thats actually pretty interesting. I think a 2080 ti is just too powerful for its own good lol. Not surprised that ryzen cant keep up with intel on a 2080ti even with 3rd gen.

They are still on amazon for a little less.

 

I had gotten one for the better binning,  but not near that price.

That game I played with HDR so my CPU and GPU did not get a workout at 60hz on a 3840 X 1600 monitor. It was beautiful and a totally smooth experience. 

The capture sequences were a bit too much for me so I never finished.

 

I can't beat that frame rate since the game won't let me go below 3440 X 1440 so you get the win.
